Juxtapoz 15th anniversary:The Big Payback

Last night was definitely a great night! Juxtapoz magazine celebrated its 15th anniversary with an event in conjunction with G-Shock watches, Upper Playground, and of course SA Studios. Not only was it a great night for art, celebration, and hanging out with good friends- but it was also fight night. I caught the word early yesterday thru Toons' blogspot that a late addition to the art on the walls would also be the Pacman x Cotto fight. After pulling up to the valet (always free at SA, nice) it was time to take a stroll inside and make the rounds. I thought we had already missed the beginning of the fight, BUT- I was way wrong. We walked into the side area of the factory compound where the event was being held just in time to see both fighters make their way to the ring, and had a spot on the wall with Flaco just as the bell went off for the first round. The art inside was incredible. There was alot of works in there from Cartoon, as well as some of Estevans pictures too. Pieces from other artists covered all four walls inside the building, and there were motorcycles and custom lowriders from SA Studios on the floor as well. The centerpiece of the warehouse though, turned out to be Mr.Cartoons world famous custom vintage Ice Cream truck.

Here's pics. Click to enlarge.

A good night, for sure. And very inspiring. The Los Angeles underground art scene is alive and well. It's a good feeling to see extended family with such success after grinding for over a decade in the art/music industry. Shoutout to Toons, Estevan, Flaco, LuLu, Willie T. . . good to hang out and just chill with the homies.

And now. . . back to the beats.
