Mayer Hawthorne

WOW!!! I just came across some really remarkable music!! I love when this happens!! Stones Throw has this artist named Mayer Hawthorne who is a throwback to the old days of soul music. His sound is described in his bio as being a mixture of equal parts J Dilla and Smokey Robinson... "Still Soul, but new..." Hawthorne, aside from the likes of Anthony Hamilton and Raphael Saadiq, easily duplicates the texture and ambiance of Motown in its finest moment. And to top it all off, he does it ALL himself in the studio. They've even got some creative marketing going on with his first single "Just aint gonna work out". They've pressed it up on Red heart shaped vynil 45's. I gotta pick one of these up for myself, even more so because its a hot record. BUT-Mayer Hawthorne is ACTUALLY a producer/DJ named "Haircut" who got a deal making these types of records as a side project when he never even really intended on his love of singing soul music on a vintage soundscape work to gain any notoriety. . . makes it even MORE interesting. Dude kinda has a double personality thing going on, and it works. And now, for the two people...that are the same person...
